Melborne to Titusville

Our cruising style seems to be evolving into one of a combination of all types: anchoring (free), mooring balls (inexpensive) and marina slips (pricey). Being those of the price sensitive nature, we prefer anchoring and mooring balls to slips in marinas if at all possible. Leaving Vero Beach we moved on to an anchorage in Melbourne tucked in behind a causeway to give us some protection from the wind. The anchorage was a maze of crab pots, but we were able to fit so that we didn’t bother them and they didn’t bother us. A good nights sleep was had by all. As our Cap’n Chris taught us, the best part of the day is early morning. So we were up and at it at the crap of dawn, heading for a mooring ball at the Titusville Municipal Marina. The mooring field in days past was a free anchorage, but in recent times has been taken over by the town. This allows Titusville to gain both control and income. The old anchorage was becoming a place of derelict boats; now it is an organized field of well-kept boats. Owners of the boats on the mooring balls get all the benefits of the marina... restroom/showers, pump-out service at the mooring, and mini-bus service to grocery/liquor store and hardware store. The marina is also surrounded by a great park. Since the closing of the space shuttle program, each community along the Space Coast is trying to reinvent itself. Titusville with its Municipal Marina is certainly doing its part....it is a great place to stop!
