The story of "Trailer Sailers"

While we were in Canada’s Little Currant in the North Channel of Lake Huron, we began to hear about a gathering of “Trailer Sailers”.  Reports of them meeting in McGregor Bay for a rendzvous came over our VHF radio. When we saw one being loaded on a trailer in Petoskey, we got acquainted with the owners’ friends who were helping them. We  discovered that they owned one of those Victorian homes at the Methodist “encampment”. They were very gracious about letting me take photos to go along with this blog entry. Wikipedia says, “ A Trailer Sailer is a sailing boat that has been specifically designed to be easily transported using a road trailer. It depends on correct crew weight for balance. It may be 15-30 feet long. This may vary, but it often has a retractable keel/ dagger board and has a removable outboard engine. It is usually fully equiped for living aboard for short periods of time. It is best used on inshore waters or along coastlines. Each Trailer Sailer is a compromise between speed and cruising comfort/ stability.”
