We struck out on our own at daybreak. With a 12 mile open water crossing ahead of us in Beaverstone Bay, we needed all the quiet water we could get. Early morning is most generally a good time to make progress without much wind. We passed “The Chickens”, Mill Lake, and then on through Collins Inlet. Lots of new growth of willows was prominent at the water’s edge; beaver homes and lots of willow chewing was very evident, too. Although we didn’t stop in Killarney, we were very impressed with the festive qualities of both the Killarney Mountain Lodge and the Sportsman’s Inn. The recent refurbishing certainly has paid off. The town was really hoppin’ as we motored through at No Wake speed. Don, another helpful cruiser, called out from a dock that that he had just left the Covered Portage anchorage nearby and there was plenty of room way down inside. We were grateful for his good news. As soon as we set the anchor, we lowered the swim platform and ladder off Summertime’s back porch and plunged into the refreshing emerald green water. How can you improve on perfection?
