Red and white is the order of the day. A red maple leaf is prominent in the country’s flag and in most of the bunting and banners flying proudly from homes and boats. Since clearing customs in Kingston, we, too, fly a small Canadian flag on our bow as a sign of respect to our host country. A larger Old Glory still flies at our stern. Centennial Park is the site of all the big doings for this special day. Among the festival food concessions' choices is poutine and chocolate-dipped bacon on a stick!! The youngsters are fascinated with the numerous farm animals in the petting zoo. They are also being enticed to scale a climbing wall or leap in a bouncy house. A community band played in the bandstand while huge dump trucks are waiting to be pulled in the Strong Man Competition. The highlight has to be The Canada Day Parade complete with kilted bagpipers, showy and antique cars and fire trucks, thus rounding out the morning. We joined in singing “Oh Canada!" with gusto. Tonight we will watch the fireworks from the pilot house of our boat.
